Non-volatile fraction is the part that will not evaporate and is a synonym of non-volatile matter. Evaporate a liquid or run a migration test, and the residue left behind is it.

In standards and reports, non-volatile fraction and non-volatile matter are often used interchangeably for the same quantity. For consistency, prefer the unified term non-volatile matter.

Relation to non-volatile matter

They share the same principle and value: evaporate or migrate, constant weight, weigh residue. Only the wording differs; the ERT-C measures exactly this remaining part.

The LabStone ERT-C water-bath constant-weight analyzer determines non-volatile matter (fraction) at 105 °C, with an inter-cycle difference below 0.3 mg, directly reporting total migration / evaporation residue.
